Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-studied treatment that focuses on the ways a person thinks. Our thoughts shape our reality in that they determine how we feel. For instance, thoughts of self worthlessness, whether conscious or unconscious, might produce depression.
Fears of social ineptitude or persistent concerns about personal safety (perhaps a holdover from childhood trauma) can produce disabling anxiety in social settings. It is now believed that humans think around 60,000 thoughts per day, so having someone help you examine these unregulated judgments and beliefs can radically change your experience of life.

Studies of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy show its usefulness with many problems, including anxiety disorders, depression, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, and psychotic disorders.
In fact, research shows that CBT is as useful as antidepressant medication for individuals with depression and is superior at preventing relapse. For Bipolar Disorders, CBT is used in conjunction with medications. Research further indicates that patients receiving CBT in addition to medication have better outcomes than patients who do not receive CBT.
